PORTLAND, Ore. - The Red Hawks concluded its Oregon road trip in Portland, OR as they took on Cascade opponent Warner Pacific University today.
The Knights took the first shot of the game on a floater in the 15th minute that found the arms of waiting goalkeeper
Kiah Gridley for her first save of the game.
Paola Montoya took the first shot for Simpson in the 26th minute but a nice sliding stop by the Knights keeper kept the score 1-0 Knights.
The Knights drew first blood on a goal in the 35th minute that found the back of the net of an outstretched Gridley.
Denise Elias-Martinez came inches away from tying the game late in the first half as a chip shot nearly found the back of the net before the Knights goalkeeper made an outstanding diving save to preserve the 1-0 lead.
Gridley had a busy first half of play as she notched five saves on seven shots by the Knights.
Kaitlyn Frederick saw time between the post in the second half as she relieved Gridley.
However, Warner Pac created some breathing room as they scored in the 60th minute to extend its 1-0 lead.
A crucial foul by Simpson allowed the Knights a penalty kick opportunity that found the back of the net shortly after.
But the Red Hawks answered back in the 65th minute as the first goal of the season belonged to 2023 2nd Team All-Conference selection
Chloe Tague.

Litsy Munoz allowed Tague an open field for a one-on-one matchup with the Knights keeper.
Simpson had some late-game opportunities on a couple of corner kicks but they were unable to find the equalizing shot.
The Red Hawks look to bounce back against Cal Poly Humboldt this week on Saturday at noon at the California Soccer Park.
