PASADENA, Calif. - The women's volleyball team continues to stay hot as they swept its SoCal road trip by beating Providence Christian in straight sets.
A kill by
Katie Graham to open the game got the scoring started to give Simpson the early lead.
Simpson faced its largest deficit, 12-7 before going on a 5-0 run to tie the game.
Mackenzie Tataryn fueled the Red Hawk's hot streak as she notched three aces while Graham and
Abigail Shackelford combined for a key block.
Once again the Red Hawks fought back from a three-point deficit to take the 19-18 lead on two kills by
Tiara Manns and a kill by
Mallory Swenson.
With the set tied at 23, a kill by Graham moved Simpson into set point territory as a Sea Beggar hitting error allowed Simpson to take the 25-23 first-set victory.
Simpson once again created a key hot streak to take the 14-9 lead after being tied moments earlier.
Tataryn played a crucial role again as she notched two aces, Graham notched a kill, and
Mariah Napoleon and Graham combined for a block.
Simpson never looked back as they never relinquished the lead in the second set as they took the 2-0 match lead on a 25-18 set two victory.
But the Sea Beggars did not go quietly as they took the early 2-0 lead in set three before Simpson reeled off four straight points on kills by Graham, Manns, and Shackelford to take the lead.
The Sea Beggars held a 15-14 lead before the Red Hawks exploded for nine straight points to take the commanding 23-15 lead.
The Red Hawks completed the straight-set victory to hop Providence Christian in the Cal Pac standings.
Tiara Manns had another big game as she notched a team-high 12 kills to go along with two blocks.
Mallory Swenson followed close behind with 10 kills to go along with three blocks.
Katie Graham had a stellar game in the net as she notched nine kills with a whopping .692 hitting percentage while picking up a team-high five blocks.
Abigail Shackelford and
Mackenzie Tataryn combined for 29 assists from the setter spot as Tataryn notched a team-high five aces.
After the win, Simpson is in sole possession of second place as they are just one game behind UC Merced for the top spot.
