SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Red Hawks football squad is coming off a bye week as they took on #25 in the nation, Ottawa University this afternoon.
Ottawa drew first blood as they marched 70 yards on the opening possession to grab the 7-0 lead.
But Ottawa kept rolling as they scored on their next four drives to take the commanding 35-0 lead.
The Simpson defense notched its first turnover of the game in the second quarter as Ottawa drove down to the Red Hawks' 11-yard line.
Defensive back
Shaquille Brookins forced a fumble on a huge hit and
Jeremiah Prinz recovered the loose ball to stall the Ottawa drive.
However, Ottawa went into the half with a commanding 49-0 lead.
The Ottawa offense continued to stay hot as they scored on four straight drives to open the half.
However, the Simpson offense came alive in the fourth quarter.
Facing a third and long, running back
Mikah Kindell busted free for a 59-yard touchdown scamper to put the Red Hawks on the board.
The Red Hawk defense came up huge as they stalled the following Ottawa drive in the red zone.
Jabari Reynolds picked up a huge tackle for loss and forced a fumble that linebacker
Kasey Mena pounced on for the Red Hawk's second turnover of the game.
The Red Hawks refused to go quietly as dual-threat quarterback
Kaleb Anderson ripped through the Ottawa defense for a 74-yard touchdown run. The longest run of the year for the Red Hawks.
Although Simpson fell 76-14 they showed a lot of heart and effort as they created some key turnovers and dynamic plays against the #25 team in the nation.
Mikah Kindell highlighted the ground attack as he notched 75 yards on six carries with one touchdown for a whopping 12.5 yards per carry.
Quarterback
Kaleb Anderson followed close behind with 61 yards on the ground with one score.
On the defensive side, Nicholas Banuelos had a team-high nine tackles to go along with 1.5 tackles for loss and one pass breakup.
Jabari Reynold and
Shaquille Brookins combined for two forced fumbles and eight tackles.
The Red Hawks look to hit the road this week as they take on future Frontier member Montana Tech on Saturday at 1 pm.
