REDDING, Calif. - The men's wrestling team hosted tough D2 opponent, San Francisco State tonight.
Simpson was represented by
Peyton MacDonald in the 125 lb weight class to open the night's duels.Â
However, SF State drew first blood by an early pin in the 125 pound match.
SF State would go on to win the 133 and 141-pound weight class matches by tech fall.Â
Tomas Jacobo wrestled hard in the 149-pound weight class but ultimately fell by a major decision,19-5.
Jacobo faced off against one of the nation's best as his opponent was ranked 10th in the country by the latest NWCA D2 coaches rankings.Â
The Gators continued to show it's dominance as they took the 165 pound weight class by a 17-2 tech fall.Â
However, the Red Hawks would not go quietly when
Bryant Bartlett held strong in the 184-pound weight class.Â
At the end of the first period, Bartlett held a 5-4 lead. However, Bartlett ultimately fell in the second period to a Gator pin.Â
The final match of the night consisted of
Jacob Vincent in the 285-pound weight class.Â
Vincent battled strong as he trailed 3-1 at the end of the first period.Â
A tightly contested second period saw the Gator wrestler pad its lead 4-1 heading into the final period.Â
Vincent would ultimately fall 4-2 to end the night.Â
Simpson was able to hold its own against a very tough D2 opponent that consisted of ranked wrestlers.Â
The Gators have hung with some of the nations best as they have dueled off against three ranked schools over the past month.Â
The Red Hawks will have a break and kick things back up on January 6th at Corban University.Â
