Dan Tating Steps Down As Athletic Director, Remains Head Baseball Coach

REDDING, Calif. - Dan Tating announced in early June that he would be stepping down as Simpson University Athletic Director, but will remain the Head Baseball Coach.

Tating was the interim AD for a year before officially taking the title in the summer of 2021. During his tenure, Tating oversaw incredible growth in the department including rapid student-athlete increases and the best year in Simpson Athletics history with 13 teams making the postseason.

Tating oversaw the hiring of three coaches including pioneering the start of Competitive Cheer and hired the program's inaugural head coach and has paved the way for success of the program.

He also was AD during one of the most successful seasons in Simpson Athletics history with 13 sports achieving post-season play, as well as Simpson U men's swimming finishing 10th in the nation.

Tating also was imperative in some facility upgrades for Athletics. He continued pouring in sweat equity into the progress of completing the on-campus baseball field that now has a backstop, dugouts, hitting facility and the infrastructure for lights to be installed later this year. Tating was active in the renovation of the Simpson University gymnasium and established a new weight room for Simpson wrestlers.

"It was an honor to help get Simpson University Athletics to its next phase and I am excited to pour all my energy into our baseball program, finish our on-campus facility and compete for a conference championship," Tating says.

Coach Tating is already the program's winningest head coach in history and has made significant leaps to complete the on-campus baseball field that has been a project for over 10 years. The project has plans to be finished in 2023.

He will also assist in the search for his replacement and will continue his duties until a new Athletic Director has been named.
