SANTA BARBARA, CA -
On the second night of a back-to-back with Westmont College, the Red Hawks again got punished by a flurry of three-pointers from the Warriors.
Westmont last night knocked down 19 for the game and tonight did nearly the same drilling 15 from beyond the arc. Despite the Warriors' hot shooting, Simpson was able to keep pace scoring at a rapid pace themselves.
Â
Mason Johnson had a career night with a team-high 27 points on 10-18 shooting from the floor and four three-pointers alongside eight rebounds. Dylan Banks complimented him nicely adding 21 points, five assists, and eight rebounds himself in what has become a two-headed attack for the Red Hawks offensively.
Â
After shooting at a 40 percent clip in the first half, the Red Hawks ramped up their scoring efficiency in the second half as their percentage sky-rocketed to 55 percent closing the gap with the Warriors.
Westmont edged out the Red Hawks with some key shots down the stretch that pushed the contest out of reach.
Simpson continues to compete at a high level with many of the top teams on the west coast in the NAIA and is set to compete with any team they face.
Â
The growth in only six games remains evident as the team continues to gain confidence as the conference schedule is about to commence.
Â
Simpson will open Cal Pac Conference play next Friday against the University of Saint Katherine.
