REDDING, Calif. - It's been 381 minutes of play since the last time Simpson women's soccer has allowed a goal. That's four straight matches without allowing the ball to get into the net, a program record, and Simpson's defensive effort throughout the past six matches has been stellar.
The Red Hawks are currently riding a six-game winning streak that began back on October 10th. Since then they have allowed just two goals in the six matches. The attack and the build-up for Simpson have hit top form as well, outscoring opponents 17-2 in that stretch.
SU also recorded its first win in program history against UC Merced, who has been atop the Cal Pac Conference for many years. This makes one thing clear, the Red Hawks are a conference contender.
Simpson finished this past week with two big wins, beating Cal Maritime 5-0 on Friday, and UC Merced 1-0 on Sunday. Simpson's leading goal scorer
Haylee Ward was able to get the lone goal in the match against UC Merced as numerous Red Hawks chipped in on the 5-goal victory over Cal Maritime.
Zyree Raban recorded a brace in the win over Cal Maritime and
Alexis Arnold,
Haylee Ward, and
Caroline Forseth each scored once.
Kiah Gridley was huge in goal for Simpson against UC Merced tallying eight saves and keeping the Bobcats scoreless despite them taking more shots than the Red Hawks.
SU looks to continue its dominance as they will host Cal Maritime on Tuesday at 11 AM at Redding Soccer Park.
