ANGWIN, Calif. - Simpson took the first lead Saturday night against the PUC Pioneers and the Red Hawks never looked back. SU exploded to a 33-10 advantage in the first half on their way to a 31 point victory on the road.
SU relied on defense stops and three point shooting to take their lead in the first half. The Red Hawks let it fly from three and shot 13-21 on the night, good for over 60% from behind the arc.
Junior sharpshooter Natalie Campos led the way for the Red Hawks off the bench, scoring a team high 16 points in as many minutes. Campos shot 4-7 from deep and added three steals on the defensive end.
Ellie Hamel built on her performance in limited minutes at home on Thursday night and was the second highest scorer for Simpson. Hamel scored 12 points and dished three assists off the SU bench.
Senior Lexi Thompson got the start and rewarded Head Coach Derrick Pringle for the starting nod by helping to set the tone early in the first. Thompson would finish the game with 11 points and two steals.
Brianna Clark came off the bench and added 11 points on a perfect 4-4 from the floor. Senior Whitney Armstrong was also big for SU posting seven points, three rebounds, and two assists.
Precious Jackson led the Red Hawks on the glass with 10 rebounds. All Ramelli and Alex Cooper rounded out the starting front court and helped Jackson with six rebounds apiece.
Simpson gets a much needed win and advances to 2-3 in Cal Pac Conference play. The Red Hawks will head back home for another important conference game against the Pioneers of Antelope Valley. The Thursday night matchup is set to tip-off at 5:30 in the James M. Grant Center.
