Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Records Biggest Win in Program History

CHICO, Calif. - Simpson baseball split the first two games of a three game series with Chico State, falling 10-8 in game one and winning 9-0 in game two.

Chico State came into the series with the Red Hawks as 21st ranked team in the country in NCAA Division II and was noted as one of the top teams on the West Coast.

After scoring six runs in the top of the 9th inning to nearly erase an eight run deficit in game one, the Red Hawks used that momentum and it led them to  record the biggest win in program history.

Simpson began game two the same way they ended game one; with red hot bats. The Red Hawks struck for two runs in the 1st inning after Derick Kuhn singled home Creed Smith and then Jonathan Liu scored on the following play to put Simpson up 2-0. SU would score once in the 2nd and then a grand slam by Christopher Brue in the 3rd inning was the main cog in giving the Red Hawks a 8-0 lead.

Even though Simpson had a big lead early, the Red Hawk starter didn't need much help. Andrew Cisneros spun a gem on the mound, throwing a complete game shutout, sprinkling seven Wildcats hits throughout the seven innings, in the 9-0 win.

Creed Smith had a monstrous day in the leadoff spot for SU tallying six hits and a couple of RBIs. Jonathan Liu recorded five hits on the afternoon in just six at bats.

The finale of the three game series will take place tomorrow, Feb. 8th at 12 pm at Nettleton Stadium in Chico, Calif.
