Eugene, Ore. – The Red Hawks traveled to Eugene Tuesday night to take on the New Hope Christian Deacons for the second time this season. Simpson had played a game in Ashland the night before but did not let the back-to-back slow them down as SU started the game strong and never looked back, going on to win 89-74.
Senior
Blake Trent got things started for the Red Hawks with a three,
Kon Anguik followed with seven quick points of his own and the Red Hawks had found their offensive rhythm. Anguik had his fingerprints all over the first half for SU and finished the half with nine points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Freshman
Nathan Presnell finished the first with 10 points and five rebounds of his own, while
Blake Trent added 11 points and four rebounds.
Strong defensive pressure aided SU on their way to a 15 points lead at the half. The Red Hawks forced six turnovers and scored 10 points off the Deacons' giveaways.
Simpson did not take their foot off the gas in the second half, quickly pushing their lead to 22 within the first two minutes. A
Brycen Wight triple gave the Red Hawks their largest lead of the game (27) with just under 12 minutes left to play.
Trent and Presnell led the SU scoring effort with 21 points apiece. Trent knocked down five triples on the way to his 21-point performance while pulling down 8 rebounds. Presnell registered his second double-double of the season with 12 rebounds to go with his scoring.
Kon Anguik finished the game with 14 points and six rebounds. Christian Alvis was the final Red Hawk to achieve double digit scoring, adding 13 points and dishing three assists off of the Simpson bench.
