Greg Cadaret was hired as Simpson University’s head men’s baseball coach in April 2014 and is coming into his 3rd year as the Red Hawk head coach. He has experience as a player, coach, manager, and analyst. He has lived in the Redding area since 1994 with his wife Debbie and three children, Ryan, Shane and Caitlin.
Cadaret, a left-handed pitcher, spent 18 years playing professional baseball, 11 of those in the Major Leagues. He played for nine different Major League teams after being drafted in the 11th round of the 1983 amateur draft by the Oakland A's. He made his major league debut with the A’s in 1987 and pitched for them in the 1988 World Series, making appearances in games three, four, and five before the A's lost to the Dodgers. In the middle of the 1989 season, Cadaret was traded along with two other players to the New York Yankees for Ricky Henderson. He played in New York through the 1992 season before being traded to the Cincinnati Reds. He continued playing until the 2000 season before retiring with the Anaheim Angels.
Cadaret has coached all levels of baseball, including an American Legion team that went to the state finals in Yountville and Foothill High School, where they won three section championships. He managed the Chico Outlaws of the Golden Baseball League and ran the Redding Colt .45's, a summer collegiate team that brought in players from around the country, for 6 years. He spent 2011 and 2012 working for Comcast as a baseball analyst for the Oakland A's pre- and post-game TV broadcasts. Cadaret played college baseball at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich., and was the first player ever drafted out of the university, which has become a national powerhouse in all Division II sports. He spent the 2014 summer in Michigan as the pitching coach for the Traverse City Beachbums of the Independent Frontier League.
